A total of 95 wines from across New Zealand have been selected as part of the Fine Wines of New Zealand list for 2020. Among those, our very own Seifried Winemakers Collection 'Sweet Agnes' Riesling 2019.
A lovely mention (or so we’re told!) from Всеволод Топонаров of Jigger – Drink Club, Russia – on two of our favourite Rabbit Island wines.
Aotea By the Seifried Family Nelson Sauvignon Blanc.
Tasted by Tina Gellie as part of Decanter - New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs: 20 under £25
"The Aotea range is Seifried's pinnacle of production, the fruit for this wine sourced from the Rabbit Island vineyard 1.5km from the sea. It sees no oak, allowing the ripe apricot, zippy lemongrass and grassy green characters to shine, which linger on the long, tropical finish. Seek out the family's 2019 Old Coach Road Sauvignon from younger vines, which is great value."
Two of Seifried's wines were crowned trophy winners at the 2020 Royal Easter Show Wine Awards at the Pullman Hotel in Auckland on Saturday.
The Seifried Winemakers Collection Sweet Agnes Riesling took home the Auckland Agricultural & Pastoral Association Heritage Rosebowl, while the Old Coach Road Nelson Gewürztraminer 2019 was crowned the Winezeal Enterprises Award for Champion Gewürztraminer.
Our very own 2016 Seifried Nelson Würzer has been featured alongside some other fantastic New Zealand varietals.
"It practically levitates above the glass with effusive notes of sweet spice and flowers."
Sauvignon Blanc reigns supreme in Marlborough - but not this year - the Seifried Family Winemakers won the New Zealand Wine of the Year “Champion Sauvignon Blanc” award, with their 2019 Nelson Sauvignon Blanc at the New Zealand Wine awards held in Blenheim over the weekend.
Chris Seifried, one of the family winemakers talks about what it felt like to scoop the award on Marlborough turf.
