The Edens Road Sauvignon Blanc vines are grown in an extremely stony area of the vineyard, where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps us to restrict the plants vigour and to crop at low levels. To further enhance the aromatics we removed leaves to allow light penetration and air movement around the fruiting zone.
Our Edens Road Vineyard is situated 15 km from the coast and is sheltered from the south by the Richmond ranges. The 'soil' is a combination of rocks and boulders, which is very hard on the farm equipment, but vital for holding the warmth of Nelson’s sun and for ripening.
2015 has been a fantastic season in Nelson. An exceptionally light yield (down 40% on long-term average yields) resulted in concentrated intensely ripe fruit and flavours.
Aromatic and fresh Sauvignon Blanc flavours were encouraged prior to vintage through careful canopy management. The fruit was de-stemmed and pressed immediately after harvest and a cool fermentation was initiated in stainless steel tanks to retain the clean, fresh aromatic fruit characters.
The 2015 Aotea Sauvignon Blanc is a single tank of Sauvignon Blanc which really impressed our winemakers and cellar team from the start. This fabulous vintage has produced some exceptional fruit and wine, so we are enthusiastic about our Aotea Sauvignon Blanc 2015. Fresh seasonal hops, blackcurrant and ripe grapefruit notes come through on the wine. The acidity is bright, ripe and minerally to balance fruit concentration. Enjoy!
