Our Brightwater Vineyard is exceptionally stony with free draining soils, which is very hard on the farm equipment. The large stones however are vital for holding the warmth of the Nelson sun and for ripening the grapes. Lively fruit characters are evident in fruit harvested from this block.
Our Rabbit Island vineyard is situated on a wide river flat. The soil is gravelly loam which is very sandy and free draining. These vineyards are about 1.5 kilometres from the sea which helps moderate temperatures.
The fruit in our 2019 Seifried Nelson Pinot Noir Rosé comes from our Brightwater and Rabbit Island vineyards. Parcels of Pinot Noir were picked incrementally in March 2019 at peak of flavour and phenolic ripeness. The de-stemmed fruit had a two day cold maceration period before juice was drained from the fermenters to blend the Rosé. The drained juice was settled, warmed and inoculated for a clean, crisp fermentation to retain lovely Pinot Noir fruit characters. The wine had brief period on yeast lees before being stabilised and bottled in June 2019.
“...pale pink, with a floral, scented bouquet. A vivacious young wine, it has vibrant plum, red-berry, strawberry and spice flavours, with an off-dry (5.6 grams/litre of residual sugar) finish. ”
