The majority of the fruit selected for our second vintage of the Lighter Alcohol* Old Coach Road Sauvignon Blanc is from our relatively new and promising Queen Victoria Vineyard, situated on stony, free draining soils in the heart of the Motueka fruit growing region. Our Queen Victoria Vineyard block has five year old vines on very stony free draining soils and produces bright, exuberant fruit characters.
In the vineyard, leaves were removed from around the fruiting zone to allow light penetration and air movement around the ripening bunches. Parcels of fruit were picked when flavours and grape acids were nicely in balance, giving fruit with intensely varietal flavours and a fresh, lasting acidity, but at a lower initial natural grape sweetness.
The 2015 Old Coach Road Lighter Sauvignon Blanc is packed with concentrated flavours from a superb vintage. Nettle, citrus and passionfruit notes shine through in the wine. Crisp minerally apple like acidity runs through the wine with a fine minerally thread to leave a long flavoursome finish.
*This Sauvignon Blanc is lighter in alcohol compared to Old Coach Road Sauvignon Blanc 2015.
