The 2020 Old Coach Road Riesling is a blend from two of our vineyards. Our Brightwater vineyard is situated 15 km from the coast and is sheltered from the south by the Richmond ranges. The ‘soil’ is a combination of rocks and boulders, which is very hard on the farm equipment but vital for holding the warmth of Nelson’s sun
and for ripening grapes.
The unirrigated Redwood Valley vineyard is situated on a gently sloping, north facing clay site; the vines range in age from 10 to 30 years. Vertical shoot positioning helps to expose the berries to sunlight, thus getting maximum intensity and optimal ripeness.
The 2020 Old Coach Road Nelson Riesling is a blend from our Brightwater and older Redwood Valley vineyard. The fruit was harvested, pressed and cool fermented. The Riesling had its ferment stopped just before dryness to bring a slight natural residual sweetness to the wine.
The 2020 Old Coach Road Riesling is beautifully aromatic with well defined jasmine and citrus characters on the nose. The palate is generous showing ripe apricot and an appealing minerally twist of natural acidity running the length of the palate, leaving a lasting impression after the wine is gone.
