Our Brightwater Vineyard is situated 15 km from the coast and is sheltered from the south by the Richmond ranges. The ‘soil’ is a combination of rocks and boulders which is very hard on the farm equipment but vital for holding the warmth of Nelson’s sun.
The grapes were picked and then underwent a Five day cold maceration period before being inoculated for fermentation. The cap was plunged twice daily during
fermentation. A further Five days of skin contact followed the fermentation period
before the wine was drained to oak barrels for an immediate malolactic fermentation and ageing.
The 2017 Rabbit Island Pinot Noir shows plum and berry notes on the nose. The palate has warm generous entry and brambly fruit Flavours with gentle spices in the background. Supple tannins wrap around the palate leaving a warm lingering Finish on the wine.
