The Brightwater Vineyard vines are grown in an extremely stony area of the vineyard where water and nutrient levels are low. This helps us to restrict the plants vigour and to crop at low levels. To further enhance the aromatics, leaves were removed to allow light penetration and air movement around the fruiting zone.
The 2013 is the forth release of our Grüner Veltliner. “Grüner” is the most widely planted white grape variety in Austria which is Hermann Seifried’s homeland. We were over the moon to finally be able to grow Grüner Veltliner here in New Zealand after it had passed through the long quarantine process. In 2008 we chose our Brightwater Vineyard to plant a small area of these very special vines. Our Grüner has been exceptionally well received in those markets we have been able to offer very modest allocations.
Grüner Veltliner is the famous aromatic grape variety from Austria. Our New Zealand version takes advantage of our very agreeable growing conditions for this grape.
The 2013 Grüner Veltliner has delicate floral and slate aromas on the nose. The palate has a gentle entry, soft, pear and white pepper notes. Fine textured phenolics define the long palate which leaves lasting flavours.
