The 2014 Seifried Sauvignon Blanc comes from our Brightwater, Eden's Road and Clover Road Vineyards. All three blocks are in close proximity to each other along the Wairoa River course. The Blocks comprise exceptionally stony and bouldery free draining soils, which is very hard on the equipment, but vital for holding the warmth of the Nelson sun and for ripening the grapes. Lively fruit characters are evident in the grapes harvested from the blocks.
Aromatic and fresh Sauvignon Blanc flavours were encouraged prior to vintage through careful canopy management. The fruit was de-stemmed and pressed immediately after harvest, and a cool fermentation was initiated in stainless steel tanks to retain the clean aromatic fruit characters.
The Seifried Sauvignon Blanc 2014 is loaded with varietal intensity which we have encourages and captured in the vineyard. Pure gooseberry, tropical passionfruit and a mellow flinty character show through on the palate. Lovely intensity and length run through the palate and persist on the finish.
“This good-value wine has a fresh, strong, ripely herbaceous bouquet - there's no mistaking the grape variety. Full-bodied, it shows good intensity of tropical fruit and herbaceous flavours and is crisp, dry, and zesty."
- Micheal Cooper, Listener, October 2014
“Since 1973 Nelson's Seifried Family Estate has been producing quality wines at most reasonable prices and this sauvignon is no exception. This wine is medium-bodied with hints of melon, green capsicum and lime. A winner with shellfish."
- John Hawkesby, NZ Herald, August 2014
