Vineyard: Seifried Brightwater Vineyard
Sugar at Harvest: 23.8°Brix
Date of Harvest: 13 May 2002
Our Brightwater vineyard is situated 15 km from the coast and is sheltered from the south by the Richmond ranges. The 'soil is a combination of rocks and boulders which is very hard on the farm equipment, but vital for holding the warmth of Nelson’s sun, and for ripening the newly established Syrah grapes.
The grapes were crushed and fermented on their skins, and hand plunged three times a day. After fermentation, the young wine was transferred to a mixture of new and one year old American barriques, where it stayed for 13 months, while it went through malolactic fermentation.
The wine is full in colour and body. It has lovely plum and peppery flavours which give the wine warmth, richness and intensity to linger on long after the first sip.
