The Brightwater Vineyard is situated 15 km from the coast and is sheltered from the south by the Richmond Ranges. The “soil” is a combination of rocks and boulders which is very hard on the farm equipment, but vital for holding the warmth of Nelson’s sun, and for ripening the grapes.
Gewürztraminer is an early ripening variety with an aromatic, fragrant bouquet. It is naturally a low yielding vine which can produce wonderful concentration and flavour. The 2007 vintage produced some of the lowest crops we have ever seen on our Gewürztraminer, giving great intensity of flavour and character.
After picking, the grapes had a period of skin contact before gentle pressing. Indigenous yeasts were used on parcels of this Gewürztraminer blend to add complexity. Cool temperatures were maintained throughout fermentation before stopping the fermentation prematurely to retain a little natural sugar. The wine was blended and bottled in June 2007.
Rich, full and very memorable – a very intense and concentrated wine! A lingering perfume of rose petals, lychee and Turkish delight, combined with a medley of spices and just a touch of sweetness at 12g/L.
